Galaxy 101, WRH Health System 81

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Zack Wright of Central Mo. scored 17 points and dished out a game-high eight assists to lead Galaxy to the first ever Collegiate Basketball Invitational Championship with a 101-81 win over WRH Health System.

With his effort in the championship game and averages of 17.8 points, 5.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds a game, Wright was named the most valuable player of the 2007 CBI.

Leading the way for Galaxy in the championship game was led by Patrick Hannaway of UC-Colo-Spgs. with 18 points. Rashard Sullivan of Southern Ind. added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win, while Jontae Vinson of Cal St. L.A. chipped in with 12. Also scoring in double figures for Galaxywas Freeman Taylor of Robert Morris (Ill.) with 11 points and Dusty Jura of Neb.-Kearney with 10

Leading the way for WRH Health System was Jarekus Singleton of William Carry with 17 points, while Brandon Voorhees of Park pumped in 14 points; Duane John of Oklahoma City added 13 points and Mike Hoyt of Mt. St. Mary’s (N.Y.) contributed with 10. Eric Dawson of Midwestern St. tied Sullivan with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Soprema 101, Louis Perry & Associates 89

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Brian Silverhorn of Georgetown (Ky.) led four players in double figures with 16 points as Soprema defeated Louis Perry & Associates 101-89 in the first game of the 2007 Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio.

Soprema will now play Structure Personnel at 4:30 p.m. today in the winner’s bracket. Louis Perry & Associates will now play the loser of game two between First Merit and Galaxy at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Silverhorn, 7-for-9 from the field, scored 11 of his 16 points in the second-half as
Soprema used a 25-8 spurt late in the second stanza to overcome a two-point deficit at 64-62 to take a commanding 87-72 lead. Also scoring in double figures for Soprema was DeMario Grier of Pfeiffer with 15 points, while Reggie George of Robert Morris (Ill.) poured in 13 points and grabbed six rebounds and Kris Kryzminski of Wayne St. (Mich.) chipped in with 12 points.

Galaxy 91, First Merit 83

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Greg Brown of Montevallo led five players in double figures with 19 points as Galaxy defeated First Merit 91-83 in the second game of the 2007 Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio.

Galaxy will now play WRH Health System at 7 p.m. today in the winner’s bracket. First Merit will now play
Louis Perry & Associates at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Brown, 7-for-12 from the field, scored 14 of his 19 points in the second-half as Galaxy erased 42-38 halftime deficit with a 17-5 run in the middle of the second-half to take a 68-62 lead. Also scoring in double figures for Galaxy was Kevin Johnson of Humboldt St. as produced the first double-double of the invitational with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Zack Wright of Central Missouri added 13 points and dished out six assists, while Kevin Nelson of Park and Jontae Vinson of Cal St. L.A. chipped in with 11. Freeman Taylor of Robert Morris (Ill.) pulled down an invitational high so far of 14 rebounds.

Leading the way for First Merit was Dustin Bremerman of Seattle Pacific with 13 points, while Isaac Rosefelt of St. Thomas (Minn.) and Joel Box of Quincy added 12 points. Box also added a team-high nine rebounds in the loss.

Leading the way for
Louis Perry & Associates was Marcus Kennedy of Montevallo with game-high’s of 17 points and nine rebounds. Luke Anderson of Minn. St. Mankato scored 15 points, including four three-pointers, while Ricky Volcy added 13 points and seven rebounds and Damien Lolar of West Tex. A&M and Eddie Smith of Ill.-Springfield pumped in 12 points apiece.

Structure Personnel 104, Soprema 99

 

WADSWORTH, OHIO---John Davis of Tarleton St. registered a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds too lead Structure Personnel to a 104-99 win over Soprema in the third game of the 2007 Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio.

Structure Personnel will now play the winner of game four between Galaxy-WRH Health System at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the winner’s bracket. Soprema will face the loser between Galaxy-WRH Health System at 1:30 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.
 

Davis connected on six of his nine attempts from the field and also hit seven of his nine attempts from charity stripe, as Structure Personnel rallied 85-77 deficit with 6:44 left in the game with a 27-14 run to end the game. Also scoring in double figures for Structure Personnel was Paul Wright of Mountain St. with 15 points, while Tom Port hit four treys en route to 14 points; Christian Burns of Philadelphia added 12 points and eight boards and Eric Babers of Southeastern Okla. St. chipped in with 11. Chaminade’s Zack Whiting dished out a game-high six assists.
 

Leading the way for Soprema was St. Augustine’s Nicholas King with 22 points, while Tyrone Anderson of Concord pumped in 14 and Anthony Brown of Central Okla. and Andre Dabney contributed with 11 points apiece.

Galaxy 110, WRH Health System 105

 

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Zack Wright of Central Mo. led six players in double figures with 18 points as Galaxy defeated WRH Health System 110-105 in the fourth and final game of day one of the 2007 Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio.
 

Galaxy (2-0) will play Structure Personnel (1-0) at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the winner’s bracket. WRH Health System (0-1) will next face Soprema (1-1) at 1:30 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.
 

Also scoring in double figures for Galaxy was Greg Brown of Montevallo with 13 points, while Kevin Johnson of Humboldt St., Kevin Nelson of Park and Rashard Sullivan of Southern Ind. all chipped with 12 points and Dusty Jura of Neb.-Kearney added 11 points. Johnson also pulled down 10 rebounds to register his second double-double of the day. Leading the way for WRH Health System was Jarekus Singleton of William Carey with 15 points, while Brandon Voorhees of Park added 14 points. Tori Davis of Baldwin-Wallace and Eric Dawson of Midwestern St. each chipped in with 13 points, while Dawson added a team-high seven rebounds and Steven Wright of Northern Ky. Contributed with 12 points.

Louis Perry & Associates 125, First Merit 119

 

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Damien Lolar of West Tex A&M and Ricky Volcy of Northern Mich. combined for 45 points as they paced seven players in double figures for Louis Perry & Associates (1-1) in a 125-119 win over First Merit (0-2).
 

Louis Perry & Associates will now play the winner of the WRH Health System-Soprema at 7 p.m. tonight in an elimination game. With the loss, First Merit was eliminated from the tournament.
 

Lolar led the scoring with 24 points on 8-11 shooting from the field, while Volcy hit five three-pointer en route to 21 points. Zach Freeman of Ill. Wesleyan and Jason Smith of Ala.-Huntsville chipped in with 13 points apiece in the win. Luke Anderson of Minn. St. Mankato continued his hot stroke from behind the 19’9” line as he hit four more to add 12 points as did Zack Malvick of Winona St. In two games, Anderson has knocked down eight treys in 14 attempts. Eddie Smith of Ill.-Springfield dished out a tournament-high nine assists in the win.
 

Leading the way for First Merit was Isaac Rosefelt of St. Thomas (Minn.) with 24 points on 10-12 shooting from the field, while Drew Coffman of Midwestern St. added 17 points. Gil Goodrich of Bowie St. pumped in 16 points and Melvin Council of Robert Morris (Ill.) and Jushay Rockett of Alas. Fairbanks, scored 12 points apiece. Council led the team in assists with seven.

WRH Health System 101, Soprema 90

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Tori Davis of Baldwin-Wallace scored a game-high 18 points as he paced five players in double figures for WRH Health System (1-1) in a 101-90 win over Soprema (1-2).

WRH Health System will now play Louis Perry & Associates at 7 p.m. tonight in an elimination game. With the loss, Soprema was eliminated from the tournament.

Eric Dawson of Midwestern St. chipped in with 15 points on 7-10 shoot from the field, while Duane John went 5-6 from the field en route to 15 points as well. Steven Wright of Northern Ky. added 14 and Mike Hoyt of Mt. St. Mary’s (N.Y.) contributed with 11 points. Wis.-Oshkosh’s Kerry Gibson pulled down nine rebounds in the win.

Leading the way for Soprema was Tyrone Anderson of Concord with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Reggie George of Robert Morris (Ill.) added 14 points. Findlay’s Frank Phillips chipped in with 12 points and Andre Dabney of Bloomfield and DeMario Grier both pumped in 11 points apiece with Dabney also registering seven assists.

Galaxy 105, Structure Personnel 101

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Zack Wright of Central Mo. scored a game-high 23 points and Jontae Vinson of Cal St. L.A. added 18 points as they helped Galaxy clinch a berth in the 2007 Collegiate Basketball Invitational Championship with a 105-101 win over Structure Personnel.

Galaxy will play the winner of the WRH Health System-Louis Perry & Associates game for the title Saturday at Noon.

Freeman Taylor of Robert Morris (Ill.) chipped in with 13 points, while Greg Brown of Montevallo pumped in 12 points and Anthony Atkinson of Barton scored 10.

Leading the way for Structure Personnel was John Davis of Tarleton St. with 24 points. Antonio Fitzgerald of St. Augustine’s added 16, while Christian Burns of Philadelphia chipped in 15 points and Michael Bonaparte added 12 points.

The Collegiate Basketball Invitational is a major national basketball event that gathers the finest 60 senior men's basketball players from all of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and Division III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
 

The event will take place at Wadsworth High School in Wadsworth, Ohio, and will consist of six teams of 10 players in double elimination tournament. Two sessions of two games each will be played both Thursday and Friday with the championship game being played Saturday at noon. The CBI will conclude with an all-star game Saturday evening in front of a live, ESPNU audience as 20 players will selected to play in the game.

WRH Health System 118, Louis Perry & Associates 113

WADSWORTH, OHIO---Corey McDuffie of West Liberty St. scored a team-high 22 and Jarekus Singleton of William Carey added 19 points as they helped WRH Health System clinch a berth in the 2007 Collegiate Basketball Invitational Championship with a 118-113 win over Louis Perry & Associates.

WRH Health System will face Galaxy for the title Saturday at Noon.

Duane John of Oklahoma City chipped in with 15 points, while Tori Davis of Baldwin-Wallace pumped in 14 points and Eric Dawson of Midwestern St. scored 12. Two other hit doubles figures as well as Kyle Ganton of Huntington and Steven Wright of Northern Ky. both scored 10 points apiece.

Leading the way for Louis Perry & Associates was Eddie Smith of Ill.-Springfield with an invitational record of 30 points. Zack Malvick of Winona St. hit 8-10 from the field en route to 20 points. Damien Lolar of West Tex. A&M chipped in with 17 points, while Zack Anderson of Minn. St. Mankato and Jason Smith of Ala.-Huntsville scored 11 apiece.
